Help with retraining a polo pony
My mom plays polo and I dabbled in the sport a bit myself. We raise polo ponies as well so maybe I can help. I ride polo ponies everyday (just to exercise them) and they are pretty much bomb-proof! I personally believe them to be the horses with the healthiest lifestyle and longest living horses.
Anyway, a well-trained polo horse will do absolutely anything for you,Cheap Oakley Half Jacket Sunglasses grey Framne blue Lens. Just today I took one over a jump, and he never seen a jump before! I have not ridden one but a couple friends of mine have ridden polo ponies that were currently in training/competition. They said once you get use to how push button they are, they are awesome to ride. It didn take them very long to at least have a nice w/t/c going.
She can learn to direct rein very easily. Just start at the walk and take it slow. Do turns: figure 8s, serpentines, sprials and circles. Horses are taught to direct rein before neck reining so she should remember it fairly quickly.
Your biggest problem is not going to be in how you ride her. It is going to be getting her feed correct and adjusting her to the new, completely different life. They are hot horses that are use to a job. Make sure you have a trainer that is at least knowledgable about dealing with entergetic horses. You will also have to understand that a polo pony training is going to be 180 from the other horses at the barn. I can tell you anything specific cause I have never delt hands on with them.
